Description of Noise Calc
Noise Calc is a calculator designed to make quick estimates of noise levels in the external environment and in the semi-reverberant field.
It is a useful tool for acoustic technicians in the field but also for other technicians who approach the noise of machines, we have thought of a specific section for those who design and install heat pumps, AHUs, chillers and noisy machines outdoors.
The first section performs logarithmic sums in decibel: it is useful, for example, when there are several nearby machines of which the sound energy is known and you want to add them (obviously you add dB with dB or dBA with dBA; you add powers Lw between them; sound pressures Lp are added, but only if taken at the same distance from the source).
The second section performs a logarithmic difference in decibels: it is useful for example when the ambient pressure level and the residual pressure level are known, so as to understand the energy level of the sound source at a point.
The third section evaluates the attenuation of the sound pressure with the distance: if the pressure Lp in decibel is known at a distance d1 I can estimate the result at d2 (I will have to avoid using measurements made with the mobile phone to avoid problems; one must also be careful that d1 is not too close to the source or d2 does not suffer from sound reflections)
The fourth section evaluates the propagation in free field known the power Lw of the sound source and if it is placed close to one, two or three surfaces (the effect of the sound reflections of other objects is excluded, however).
The fifth section estimates the attenuation effect of a soundproofing barrier, performs a very simplified calculation of frequency by frequency and returns how many decibels the noise will be able to reduce (if the frequency is unknown, 500 Hz is usually used)
The sixth section is very useful for technicians and installers of machines who work outdoors: note the data in the technical sheet (or the power or pressure at the distance declared by the manufacturer), note the position of the machinery near one or more surfaces, note the distance to the nearest window of the neighbors, the app will tell you if there are strong criticalities or not on compliance with the municipal acoustic zoning (DPCM 14/11/97)
MARCH 2021 - TWO NEW SECTIONS
The seventh section allows the logarithmic mean
The eighth section allows to evaluate the propagation in the semi-reverberant field
